From Ancient Greek τίμημα (tímēma), from τιμή (timḗ), from τῑ́ω (tī́ō), leveled to the root ث م ن (ṯ-m-n); ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *kʷey- (value, honor). Compare Classical Syriac ܛܝܼܡܵܐ (ṭīmā, price, value) and Jewish Literary Aramaic תמא (tmˀ, duty, tax, fee); for more see τιμή (timí) and τῑμάω (tīmáō).
