إن شاء الله

إِنْ شَاءَ ٱللّٰهُ • (ʔin šāʔa llāhu)

1. God willing; inshallah, if it is God’s will (literally, “if God has willed [it]”)

   سَأَزُوْرُ أَقَارِبِي فِي مَدِيْنَةِ الرِّيَاضِ هَذَا الصَّيْفِ، إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ.

   saʔazuwru ʔaqāribī fī madiynati r-riyāḍi haḏā ṣ-ṣayfi, ʔin šāʔa l-lahu.

   I will visit my relatives in Riyadh this summer, God willing.

   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 37:102:

     فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعْيَ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ إِنِّي أَرَى فِي ٱلْمَنَامِ أَنِّي أَذْبَحُكَ فَٱنْظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَى قَالَ يَا أَبَتِ ٱفْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ سَتَجِدُنِي إِنْ شَاءَ اللّٰهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّابِرِينَ

     falammā balaḡa maʕahu s-saʕya qāla yā bunayya ʔinnī ʔarā fī l-manāmi ʔannī ʔaḏbaḥuka fanẓur māḏā tarā qāla yā ʔabati fʕal mā tuʔmaru satajidunī ʔin šāʔa llāhu mina ṣ-ṣābirīna

     When he was old enough to assist in his endeavour, he said, "My son! I see in dreams that I am sacrificing you. See what you think." He said, "Father! Do whatever you have been commanded. If God wishes, you will find me to be patient."

2. it is to be hoped; I hope; we hope so; hopefully

• إنْ شاءَ اَلرَّبُّ وَعِشْنَا (ʔin šāʔa r-rabbu waʕišnā)
• مَا شَاءَ اللّٰه (mā šāʔa llāh, “what God has willed”)
• بِإذْنِ اللهِ (biʔiḏni llāhi, “by the permission of God”)
• اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ (allāhu ʔakbaru, “God is greater”)
• بِسْمِ ٱللّٰهِ (bi-smi llāhi, “in the name of God”)
  • بِسْمِ ٱللّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ (bismi llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīmi)
• سُبْحَانَ ٱللّٰهِ (subḥāna llāhi, “glory be to God”)
• أَسْتَغْفِرُ ٱللّٰهَ (ʔastaḡfiru llāha, “I seek forgiveness from God”)
• اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ (al-ḥamdu lillāhi, “all praise is for God”)
• آيَةُ الله (ʔāyatu llāh, “ayatollah, sign of God”)
• اللّٰهُمَّ (allāhumma, “God; O God”)

From Arabic إِنْ شَاءَ اَللَّه (ʔin šāʔa l-lah).
