Etymology
According to Schuessler (2007), from Kam-Tai; compare Proto-Kam-Sui *ɓjaːk⁷ (“woman, girl”) & Proto-Tai *ɓɯːkᴰ (“girl”), (p. 164). Schuessler (2007) also considers that this may be a possible allofam or re-etymologization of 婢 (“female slave”), (p.158).
