Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀕 (sattaga), from Sanskrit सप्तक (saptaka, “group of seven”), but influenced by Northwestern Indo-Aryan, whence also Punjabi ਸੱਤਾ (sattā). Doublet of सप्तक (saptak). Equivalent to सात (sāt, “7”) + -आ (-ā). Cognate with Nepali सत्ता (sattā).
