Eishō (Muromachi period)

Eishō (永正) was a Japanese era name (年号,, nengō,, lit. "year name") after Bunki and before Daiei. The period started in February 1504 and ended in August 1521.[1] During this time, the emperor was Go-Kashiwabara-tennō (後柏原天皇).[2]

Events of the Eishō era

  • 1504 (Eishō 1): A great famine.[3]
  • 1508 (Eishō 5, 1st month): Ashikaga Yoshitane led troops into Kyoto.[4]
  • 21 September 1510 (Eishō 7, 18th day of the 8th month): Earthquake at Seionaikai (Latitude: 34.600/Longitude 135.400), 6.7 magnitude on the Richter Scale.[5]
  • 10 October 1510 (Eishō 7, 8th day of the 9th month): Earthquake in the Enshunada Sea (Latitude: 34.500/Longitude: 137.600), 7.0 on the Richter Scale.[5]
  • 1511 (Eishō 8, 2nd month): Yoshida Kanetomo died at the age of 77.[6]
In the 8th year of Eishō, a battle was fought at Mount Funaoka (Funaokayama) in Kyoto
  • 16 September 1511 (Eishō 8, 24th day of the 8th month): Battle of Funaokayama.[6]
