Etymology

Probably borrowed from Sogdian 𐼸𐼻𐼿𐼷𐼸 (kncyk, young girl), diminutive of 𐼸𐼻𐼿 (knc, girl). Some anaylse it as *kan + *-čïk, however considering the root is unattested and the suffix would have been *-čük at the time, this is unlikely.

Compared to Proto-Tungusic *kačikān (puppy) by Altaicists however that is likely a borrowing from Turkic.

Noun

*kančïk

  1. (Common Turkic) bitch; both in the sense of female dog and a promiscuous woman.
Hyponyms: *ït (dog), *köpek (dog), *tülki (fox), *bȫrü (wolf), *kūrt (wolf)
