Suffix

-anék

  1. (personal conditional suffix) Forms the first-person singular conditional present tense of verbs (indefinite conjugation).
    tanít (to teach) + -anéktanítanék (I would teach)
  2. (personal suffix, archaic, only with -ik verbs) Forms the third-person singular conditional present indefinite. Usually avoided except when the third person is clear.
    Synonym: (current form) -ana

Usage notes

  • (personal conditional suffix, indefinite first-person singular) Variants:
    -nék is added to most verbs (there is no back-vowel variant in standard Hungarian)
    vár (to wait) + -nékvárnék (I would wait)
    Lua error in Module:utilities at line 142: attempt to perform arithmetic on local 'h' (a nil value) is added to back-vowel verbs ending in two consonants or in a long vowel + t (exceptions: áll, száll, varr, forr, lát)
    mond (to say something) + -anékmondanék (I would say something)
    tanít (to teach) + -anéktanítanék (I would teach)
    -enék is added to front-vowel verbs ending in two consonants or in a long vowel + t
    fest (to paint) + -enékfestenék (I would paint)
    segít (to help) + -enéksegítenék (I would help)
