1. (Buddhism) Pratyekabuddha (an enlightened being whose path to enlightenment lies outside the Buddhist tradition or community; one who becomes enlightened without the teachings of the Buddha)

     It is extremely rare for a Pratyekabuddha and for a completely passion-free disciple of the Tathāgata, for an Arhat, to appear in the world.
