胡人

1. (historical) the Northern and Western barbarian tribes of Ancient China

     From: Zhanguo Ce, circa 5^th – 3^rd centuries BCE

     Húrén xí Yān Lóufán shù xiàn, qǔ qí niúmǎ. [Pinyin]

     The Hu people raided the districts belonging to the Loufan (dependencies) of Yan and captured their cattle and horses.

2. (historical) the Sogdians

   • 思摩者，頡利族人也。始畢、處羅以其貌似胡人，不類突厥，疑非阿史那族類。 [Classical Chinese, trad.]
     思摩者，颉利族人也。始毕、处罗以其貌似胡人，不类突厥，疑非阿史那族类。 [Classical Chinese, simp.]

     From: The Old Book of Tang, 945 CE

     Sīmó zhě, Xiélì zúrén yě. ShǐBì, Chùluó yǐ qí mào sì Húrén, bù lèi Tūjué, yí fēi Āshǐnà zú lèi. [Pinyin]

     Simo was a relative of Xieli. Shibi and Chuluo considered his countenance to resemble Sogdiansʼ, not typical of Turks. They suspected that he was not one of Ashina kin.
