Etymology

From Mongolian ᠪᠠᠭᠰᠢ (baɣsi, master, trainer, teacher) or Manchu ᠪᠠᡴᠰᡳ (baksi, scholar), in turn from Chinese 博士 (MC pak dzriX, “master”). Doublet of 博士 (bóshì) and 把戲把戏 (bǎxì).
