Etymology
Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀕𑁄𑀭𑀽𑀯 (gorūva), from Sanskrit गोरूप (gorūpa, “cow-shaped”), a compound of गो (go, “cow”) + रूप (rūpa, “shape”). Cognate with Assamese গৰু (goru) and Bengali গোরু (gōru).
