Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hnáwa, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hnáwa, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁néwn̥. Cognate with Avestan 𐬥𐬀𐬎𐬎𐬀 (nauua), Persian نه (noh), Pashto نه (nə), Northern Kurdish neh, Latin novem, Ancient Greek ἐννέα (ennéa), Old English niġon (whence English nine).
