From Aramaic יַרְחָא (yarḥā), from Proto-Semitic *warḫ-; compare Hebrew יָרֵחַ (yaréakh, “moon”), Akkadian 𒌚 (warḫum, “month”) and Arabic تَارِيخ (tārīḵ, “date, history”).
