Etymology

Borrowed from Ancient Greek θεωρῶ (theōrô), common form of θεωρέω (theōréō). Doublet of θωρώ (thoró), which was inherited.

  • For sense “validate a document”, semantic loan from French viser (issue with a visa).
  • For sense “examine a text”, semantic loan from French réviser (revise, review).[1]
