Etymology

Inherited from Byzantine Greek θάβω, from the Ancient Greek θάπτω (tháptō) from the perfective stem θαψ- in the pattern of -ψ- > -β- as in κόπτω (kóptō), κοψ- > κόβω (kóvo, cut).[1]
