ɣu³⁵
Pela
Etymology
From Proto-Sino-Tibetan. Cognate with Burmese ရှု (hru., “to look at, to view (in compounds)”), Nuosu ꉜ (hxep, “to look at, to read”), Nusu ɣʴu³¹ (“to look at”), Hani hu (“to look at”) and Japhug ru (“to look at”). Compare Lhao Vo qu”, Zaiwa wu and Xiandao ʐu³⁵.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ɣu³⁵/
Usage notes
The morphological counterpart for ɣu³⁵ is supposed to be xu³⁵, yet the meaning “to let see; to show” of it seems no longer present, and synchronically it means “to meet; to encounter; to visit (someone)”.
Semantically, the counterpart of ɣu³⁵ is more likely pi³¹ ɣu³⁵ with an auxiliary verb pi³¹ (“to give”).
For a similar case in which both experiences and attempts are indicated by the same verb, see 試/试 (si³) in Cantonese.
