Satsuma Province

Satsuma Province (薩摩国, Satsuma-no Kuni) was an old province of Japan in the area of Kagoshima Prefecture on the island of Kyūshū.[1] Its abbreviation is Sasshū (薩州).

History

In the Meiji period, the provinces of Japan were converted into prefectures. Maps of Japan and Satsuma Province were reformed in the 1870s.[2]

Shrines and Temples
Nitta Shrine

Hirasaki jinja and Nitta Hachiman-gū were the chief Shinto shrines (ichinomiya) of Satsuma.[3]
