Arrondissement of Nontron

The arrondissement of Nontron is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Dordogne département in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Its capital is the city of Nontron.

History

When the Dordogne department was created on 17 February 1800, the arrondissement of Nontron was part of that original department.[2]

Geography

The arrondissement of Nontron is the northernmost and smallest of the arrondissements of the Dordogne department, with an area of 1,621 square kilometres (626 square miles).[3] It has 40,508 inhabitants and a population density of 25.0 inhabitants/km².[4]

The arrondissement of Nontron is bordered to the north and northeast by the Haute-Vienne department, to the east by the Corrèze department, to the south by the arrondissement of Périgueux and to the west by the Charente department.

Several tributaries of the Dordogne river flows through the arrondissement; some of them are Isle, Dronne, Lizonne and Loue.
