sleginn

Old Norse

Etymology

From Proto-Norse ᛊᛚᚨᚷᛁᚾᚨᛉ (slaginaʀ), from Proto-Germanic *slaganaz, past participle of *slahaną (to strike, to kill). The vowel e does not come from i-umlaut, which never affects past participles ending with -inn, but rather from palatalized gi; cf. degi, dative singular of dagr (day).
