Inherited from Ottoman Turkish سایهسنده (sâyesinde). By surface analysis, saye (“shadow; fig. protection, aid”) + -(s)i (possessive suffix with "s" as buffer consonant) + -(n)de (locative suffix), literally “in the shadow of (him/her/it)”.
