Etymology
From Early Proto-Slavic *ígrā˙,[1] from Proto-Balto-Slavic *ígrāˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ig-réh₂, from *h₂eyg- (“to stir, set in motion”). Cognate with Ancient Greek αἰγίς (aigís).
