Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *grḗˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰr-éh₁-ti, from *gʷʰer- (“to heat”) + *-éh₁ti (“stative suffix”). Cognate with Ancient Greek θερέω (theréō), Albanian ngroh.
