Proto-Slavic
Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *ángulas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éngulos, equivalent to *h₂eng- + *-ъlъ. From the same Indo-European root also *ǫkotь and *paǫkъ (“spider”).
Cognate with Latin angulus, Sanskrit अङ्गुरि (aṅgúri, “finger, toe”), Ancient Greek ἀγκύλος (ankúlos, “crooked, curved”), and Proto-Germanic *ankulaz (“ankle, hip”).
