Etymology
Uncertain; possibly from Proto-Indo-European *duh₂-nós (“lasting, durable”), from *dewh₂- (“to last”) + *-nós,[1] or from Proto-Indo-European *dʰuHno-, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰewh₂- (“smoke, mist, haze”).[2]
