Of native Korean origin. From root 시끌 (sikkeul, onomatopoeia for noisiness) + (-eop, adjectival suffix) + (-da). Cognate with 시끌시끌하다 (sikkeulsikkeulhada), 시끌벅적하다 (sikkeulbeokjeokhada), 시끌덤벙하다 (sikkeuldeombeonghada).
