     Our late father was on a business trip to Jehol. One year, he was commissioned to inspect Mongolia, and I followed him there.

     Currently, in Beijing, there are three types of crude opium: eastern, northern, and western. The eastern variety comes from Manchuria, and is sold exclusively by the military there. The northern variety is produced in the area beyond the Great Wall and exclusively sold by the Jehol military. The western variety is cultivated in Shanxi and exclusively sold by the Shanxi military.
