Pronunciation
Particle
歇過
- (Northern Wu) Experimentative marker; used to mark that the agent has experienced or done the action prior.
Usage notes
- Especially in varieties that contrast this particle with simply 歇 or 過/过, 歇過/歇过 can often put more emphasis on the fact that an action might or might not have ever occurred, ever. 歇 and 過/过 then are often milder in their experimentative implications, and can be more suited for contexts where one wishes to express that an action has or has not been experienced only within a certain timeframe.
- In Urban Shanghainese the use of this particle is often considered old-fashioned.
