     In China, transgender people are pathologized as suffering from “transsexualism”, which is classified as a type of “Gender Identity Disorder” in the 3rd edition of the Chinese Classification of Mental Disorders (CCMD-3).

This term is considered pejorative and is dispreferred in transgender communities, while it is still used as a diagnostic label by some hospitals.
