Usage notes
This term is also used to refer to female teachers, while the term 師母/师母 (shīmǔ) refers specifically to a male teacher's wife, and not to female teachers. Usually, 師父/师父 (shīfu) is used to refer to martial arts teachers and Buddhist monks or nuns, while 師傅/师傅 (shīfu) is used to refer to a master or teacher of a trade.
