From Old Khmer lʼiaṅa (“to lean, to slant, to slope, to tilt; to tend, to trend; to be inclined (towards), to be calculated (to); etc”). Cognate with Modern Khmer លំអៀង (lumʼiəng) or លម្អៀង (lumʼiəng), and ល្អៀង (lʼiəng), Lao ລຳອຽງ (lam ʼīang).
