Etymology
From คืน (kʉʉn, “night”) + หมา (mǎa, “dog”) + หอน (hɔ̌ɔn, “to howl”); literally "dog-howling night"; believed to have originated from the practice of electoral frauds in Thailand, in which political party agents often appeared at people's houses on the night before an election day in order to buy votes for the last time, making watchdogs become very noisy that night.[1][2]
