Inherited from Prakrit 𑀔𑀸𑀅𑀇 (khāaï), from Sanskrit खादति (khā́dati). Cognate with Konkani खाव्चे (khāvce), Marathi खाणे (khāṇe), Hindi खाना (khānā), Gujarati ખાવું (khāvũ), Bengali খাওয়া (khaōẇa), Punjabi ਖਾਣਾ (khāṇā) / کھانا (khānā).
