Inherited from Middle Gujarati दहि (dahi), दही (dahī), from Old Gujarati दही (dahī), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀤𑀳𑀺 (dahi), from Sanskrit दधि (dádhi), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰé-dʰh₁-i (“curdled milk”), from *dʰeh₁(y)- (“to nurse, suckle”). Doublet of દધિ (dadhi) and ધાન (dhān).
