Inherited from Prakrit 𑀖𑀫𑁆𑀫 (ghamma), from Sanskrit घर्म (gharmá, “hot weather, sunshine”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gʰarmás (“hot, warm; warmth, heat”), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰor-mós, from *gʷʰer- (“warm, hot”). Doublet of ઘર્મ (gharma) and ગરમ (garam). Cognate with Romani kham (“sun”), Konkani घाम (ghām), Marathi घाम (ghām, “perspiration”).
