Etymology

Inherited from Early Assamese *সৰিষ (soriṣo), from Prakrit 𑀲𑀭𑀺𑀲𑀯 (sarisava), from Sanskrit সৰ্ষপ (sarṣapa, mustard seed). Cognate with Sylheti ꠢꠂꠞꠧ (hoiró), Bengali সরষে (śorśe), Odia ସୋରିଷ (soriṣô), Hindustani سرسوں / सरसों (sarsõ).
