Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *swápati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *swápati, from Proto-Indo-European *swép-e-ti, from *swep- (“to sleep”). Cognate with Old English swefan, Latin sōpiō, Old Church Slavonic съпати (sŭpati).
