Cognate with Latin sternō (“I bestrew, sprinkle”), Avestan 𐬯𐬙𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬥𐬁𐬌𐬙𐬌 (stərənāiti), Ancient Greek στόρνῡμι (stórnūmi), Old Church Slavonic (о-)строуити ((o-)struiti), Old English strewian (whence English strew).
