Inherited from Prakrit 𑀲𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀇 (sakkaï), from Sanskrit शक्नोति (śaknoti). Cognate with Hindustani سَکْنا (saknā) / सकना (saknā), Marathi सकणे (sakṇe), शकणे (śakṇe), Gujarati શકવું (śakvũ), Punjabi ਸਕਣਾ (sakṇā).
