Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀨𑀮𑀇 (phalaï), from Sanskrit फलति (phalati). Cognate with Punjabi ਫਲਣਾ (phalṇā) / پَھلݨا (phalṇā), Sindhi ڦَلَڻُ / फलणु, Gujarati ફળવું (phaḷvũ), Nepali फल्नु (phalnu), Marathi फळणे (phaḷṇe), Bengali ফলা (phola). Equivalent to फल (phal, fruit) + -ना (-nā, verb-forming suffix).
