Borrowed from Northwestern Indo-Aryan, whence Punjabi ਪੱਕਾ (pakkā), from Prakrit 𑀧𑀓𑁆𑀓 (pakka), from Sanskrit पक्व (pakva, “cooked”) (whence पकना (paknā, “to be cooked”)), from Proto-Indo-European *pₔkʷ-wó-s, from *pekʷ- (“to cook”).
