Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘠𑘳𑘪𑘰𑘨 (dhuvāra, “chimney”), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀥𑀽𑀫 (dhūma) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀭- (-ra-), from Sanskrit धूम (dhūmá, “smoke”)[1] (compare Old Marathi 𑘠𑘳𑘽 (dhuṃ), Sanskrit धूमल (dhūmala)). Compare Konkani धुवोर (dhuvor), Hindustani دُھون٘وَر (dhū̃var) / धूँवर (dhū̃var), Sinhalese දුඹුලු (duᵐbulu), දුඹුල් (duᵐbul).
