From Aramaic תְּמָנַעֵסְרֶא (təmānaʿesrē). Equivalent to ܬܡܵܢܹܐ (tmānē, eight) + ܥܸܣܲܪ (ʿisar, ten); compare Arabic ثَمَانِيَ عَشْرَةَ (ṯamāniya ʕašrata) and Hebrew שְׁמוֹנֶה עֶשְׂרֵה (sh'moné 'esré).
