From Aramaic תְּמָנֵעְסַר (təmāneʿəsar). Equivalent to ܬܡܵܢܝܵܐ (tmānyā, “eight”) + ܥܸܣܪܵܐ (ʿisrā, “ten”); compare Arabic ثَمَانِيَةَ عَشَرَ (ṯamāniyata ʕašara) and Hebrew שְׁמוֹנָה עָשָׂר (sh'moná 'asár).
