Etymology 1
Inherited from Proto-Turkic *čöl (“steppe, desert”); cognate with Azerbaijani çöl, Bashkir сүл (sül), Kazakh шөл (şöl), Kyrgyz чөл (cöl), Tatar чүл (çül), Turkmen çöl, Uyghur چۆل (chöl) and Uzbek choʻl.
