Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kočaq (“hero, brave man”); equivalent to قوچ (koç, “ram; brave man”) + ـاق (-ak, noun and adjective diminutive suffix). Cognate with Azerbaijani qoçaq, Karakalpak қошшақ, Kumyk къоччакъ (qoççaq) and Turkmen goçak.
