طربوش

Arabic

Etymology

Found from the sixteenth century, variant of شَرْبُوش (šarbūš). The dissimilation is speculated to have been motivated by Kipchak تر (tär, sweat), the headpiece being fit to conceal (بوش (pôš)) perspiration.
