Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀁𑀩𑀼𑀚𑁆𑀛𑀤𑀺 (saṃbujjhadi), from Sanskrit सम्बुध्यते (sambudhyate). Cognate with Punjabi ਸਮਝਣਾ (samjhaṇā) / سَمجھݨا (samjhṇā), Gujarati સમજવું (samajvũ), Marathi समजणे (samajṇe).
