Etymology

From *yalañač (“nude, naked”), from Proto-Turkic *yalïŋ (“naked; lone, solitary”), whence also яңғыҙ (yañğıź).

Cognate with Kazakh жалаңаш (jalañaş), Kyrgyz жылаңач (jılaŋac), Southern Altai јылаҥаш (ǰïlaŋaš, “naked, nude”), Crimean Tatar calanğaş (“naked, barefoot”), Uyghur يالاڭاچ (yala'ngach) / يالاڭغاچ (yalangghach, “bare, naked”), Turkmen ýalaňaç, Salar yalañgaş (“naked”), etc.
