Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (jalïŋus, “sole, only”), Old Uyghur [script needed] (jalŋuz, “sole, only”), Bashkir яңғыҙ (yañğıź, “lonely”), Tatar ялгыз (yalgız, “lonely”), Kazakh жалғыз (jalğyz, “lonely”), Southern Altai јаҥыс (ǰaŋïs, “lone, only, lonely”), Turkish yalnız (“lonely”).
