Etymology

Borrowed from Ukrainian бідолага (bidolaha, poor thing, poor person),[1] from an earlier бідолаха related to Ukrainian біда (bida), which is a cognate with Russian беда (beda). The word has been adapted to the Russian phonetics with the change of "і" in Ukrainian біда (bida) to "е" like in Russian беда (beda).
